Diet Types
Standard Diets
Purina standard LabDiet formulas include an exclusive Constant
Nutrition™ formulation that provides a constant level
of nutrients - amino acids, lipids, fiber, minerals, vitamins
and carbohydrates. The constant nutrition baseline helps
control nutritionally induced variables. Ingredients are
analyzed for environmental contaminants to reduce the potential
of unwanted variables in a diet affecting research results.
Certified Diets
Purina Nutrition International Certified LabDiet products
meet the stringent requirements of the FDA's Good Laboratory
Practices (GLP) program. Certified diet products are analyzed
before shipping and every lot is certified to not exceed
maximum concentrations of contaminants, such as heavy metals,
aflatoxins, chlorinated hydrocarbons, organophosphates and
specified nutrients. A certificate is provided with each
bag, indicating the contaminant concentrations.
Advanced Protocol® Diets
LabDiet's Advanced Protocol Diets provide new diet options
for leading-edge research. Development included determining
key variables, such as nutrient levels and non-nutrients
needed to optimize animal performance and maintain study
requirements. The advanced protocol dietary options include
a number of varieties for rodents, as well selections for
birds, fish and frogs.
Irradiated Diets
Purina Mills PicoLab® Diets are irradiated before shipment
to create virtually bacteria-free diets containing fewer
than 50 micro organisms per gram. Each bag's pop-out inner
pouch ensures the diet arrives in the laboratory bacteria-free
and allows bags to be spray disinfected before being transported
into animal rooms. The picowaving treatment of irradiated
diets delivers reliable microbial control and virtual freedom
from bacteria, without the added time, handling and cost
of autoclaving.
Breeder Diets
LabDiet has created rodent breeder diets that are specially
designed to support reproduction, lactation, growth and
maintenance. This diet pairs Constant Nutrition with high
quality ingredients to ensure minimal biological variations
during long-term studies.
